This blog is part of an ongoing effort to reveal the sacred within the profane.

One night, while I was swimming in the ocean, I discovered two large turtles resting thirty feet below me. I held my breath and dove toward them, to see them. As I hovered there, I heard something I had not known at the surface: the chatter of whales. I would not have found this at the surface, where all other sounds were drowned by wind and breaking waves. Hearing the whales enriched me, sensitized me to that place. This blog takes place thirty feet below the surface.
